SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

Custom software development

AIR Interactive designs and develops software for businesses launching a product, building an internal system, or extending an existing application.

We handle the full application, from interface design and backend development to databases, integrations, and deployment. You can commission a complete build or bring us into an existing project with a defined area of responsibility.

Discuss your software project

Tell us what you want to develop or improve. We’ll discuss the requirements, technical considerations, and how we can help.

Applications for your staff and customers

Custom development gives you control over how an application works, what information it holds, and who can use it. These are examples of the systems we can develop.

Operations management applications

We develop systems for managing jobs, orders, inventory, and approvals across departments. Staff can update records from the office or a mobile device, with access determined by their role.

For a service business, that could mean keeping scheduling, site notes, photographs, and completion approval against one job record, then passing approved information to the accounting system.

Customer and partner portals

A portal gives customers a secure account for submitting requests, exchanging documents, and checking progress. We develop the customer interface alongside the administration features your staff need to manage those interactions.

Permissions, notifications, and connections to your CRM or operational systems are designed around the service you provide, including what customers can change and what requires approval.

Product development and integration services

New software products

We develop browser-based and mobile applications for businesses bringing a product to market. The scope can include account management, subscriptions, and administration as well as the features customers pay to use. We help define a first release that can be evaluated with its intended users.

APIs and system integration

We build APIs and services that exchange information between applications. This includes defining how records map between systems, resolving conflicting updates, and handling failures. Your staff need to know when a transfer has failed and be able to recover it without creating duplicate records.

Application modernization

We can extend existing software, improve performance, or replace components that have become difficult to maintain. A review of the code, dependencies, and data establishes what can be retained and whether changes can be introduced gradually while the business continues using the system.

We develop software applications. We don’t take on marketing websites, landing pages, or brochure sites.

How we plan and deliver your software

A development proposal should explain what will be delivered, how you will review it, and which decisions affect cost. We establish those expectations before the build and revisit them when requirements change.

Project definition

We review the intended users, business requirements, and systems the application must connect to. The initial scope identifies the features needed for release, technical dependencies, and assumptions behind the estimate.

Design and development

We develop the interface and underlying services together, with working versions available for review during the project. Your feedback informs subsequent development, and proposed changes are assessed against the agreed scope and budget.

Testing and release

Testing covers the agreed business requirements, user permissions, and integration behavior, including how the application responds when information is missing or a service is unavailable. We agree acceptance scenarios with you and provide the results for review. The release plan covers deployment, any data migration, and recovery if the release needs to be reversed.

Maintenance and handover

We agree source-code ownership, hosting access, documentation, and support responsibilities as part of the engagement. The handover package includes the agreed repository access, deployment instructions, configuration reference, and a record of known limitations. Ongoing maintenance can cover dependency updates, fault investigation, and further development under a separate agreement.

AI integration within your application

We can incorporate AI into new or existing software where it serves a defined purpose. For example, an application can extract information from incoming documents, retrieve answers from approved company records, or prepare a response for a member of staff to review.

The integration includes the surrounding application behavior: which records the model can access, how outputs are checked, and what happens when a result is incomplete or incorrect. We assess quality, response time, and running costs against representative examples before expanding its use.

Questions about commissioning software

Do we need a specification before contacting you?

You can approach us with a product idea, an existing application, or a business process you want to improve. We will discuss what is already known and whether a discovery engagement is needed to define the requirements and assess feasibility before estimating development.

Can you work alongside our developers?

We can take responsibility for a defined part of a project or contribute to an existing codebase. Before starting, we agree the development standards, review process, and release responsibilities with your team.

How are cost and delivery dates established?

Estimates depend on the required features, integrations, data migration, and testing obligations. We identify dependencies and uncertainties in the proposal, then agree how changes will be evaluated and approved during development.

Do you build websites?

Our development service is for software applications, including applications accessed through a browser. We do not offer marketing website design, landing pages, or brochure sites.
